T3 AireLuxe vs Featherweight StyleMax: Half an Ounce Apart

Five heat settings, three speeds, a nine-foot cord, 125 V and two years - on both. The published difference between these dryers is half an ounce.

Updated October 2026 · Sawyer V.

Buy whichever is cheaper on the day. T3 publishes five heat settings, three speed settings, a 9 ft professional cord, 125 V and a two-year warranty for both, and no wattage for either. The only published difference is weight: 16.6 oz for the Featherweight StyleMax against 17.1 oz for the AireLuxe. Half an ounce is not a reason to pay more, and the Featherweight is usually the dearer of the two.

Quoted from T3's own product pages. Eight of ten rows are identical.

This is the closest pair on the site. Eight rows match exactly, one differs by half an ounce, and the tenth — the surface description — differs only in wording. If you were handed these two sheets without the names on them you would not be able to tell that they describe different products.

Half an ounce, and what it is worth

16.6 oz against 17.1 oz. That is 0.5 oz, about 14 grams, or roughly the weight of three U.S. quarters.

We are not going to pretend that matters. Weight genuinely decides dryer purchases — it is the row you feel through a twenty-minute session with your arm raised — but it decides them across ranges like the 0.7 lb L’ange Axia against the 1.8 lb Dyson Supersonic, a difference of over seventeen ounces. Half an ounce is inside the margin of how you hold the thing.

It is also worth noting that both figures exclude the cord, and the cord is nine feet of it. A 9 ft professional cable weighs considerably more than half an ounce, so the in-hand difference between these two dryers is proportionally smaller still than the published numbers suggest. ghd publishes the flight+ at 0.99 lb including cord and nozzle, which is a stricter basis and worth remembering when comparing across brands.

Fifteen combinations, which is the real argument for either

Five heat settings and three speeds is fifteen combinations, and that is the most published control of any dryer in this registry. It is the reason to buy either of these dryers rather than the reason to choose between them.

Set it against the field. Dyson publishes four heat settings plus a cold shot and three speeds on the Supersonic. The L’ange Axia publishes four settings. The Revlon SmoothStay publishes three heat and two speed. Both ghd dryers publish “variable” control without saying how many positions that is, so they cannot be counted at all. Shark publishes no heat or speed count for either of its tools.

Fifteen positions matters most on hair that needs the low end: fine, bleached, color-treated or already-damaged hair, where the useful instruction is to spend less heat rather than more, and where a coarse three-step dial forces you up a step you did not want. Bleached hair starts with measurably less margin Dyer et al., International Journal of Cosmetic Science, and repeated cycling compounds it Evans and Park, Journal of Cosmetic Science. Granularity is how you spend less.

The honest limitation is that fifteen positions is a count, not a set of temperatures. T3 does not publish degrees for any of them. The only dryers on this site that publish an actual temperature are the L’ange Axia, at a stated 140–230°F, and the ghd flight+ at 149°F. So T3 gives you the most adjustment and the least information about what you are adjusting to — the temperature guidance by hair type is what to calibrate against.

Neither publishes a wattage, so neither can be costed

This is the shared blank, and it is the one that stops this site doing the arithmetic it does everywhere else. Without a wattage figure there is no annual running cost, no comparison of power against the 1,875 W dryers, and no way to check whether “professional” means anything electrically here.

T3 publishes a wattage on exactly two products in this registry — 1,200–1,400 W on the Aire 360 and 1,200 W on the AireBrush Round. Both dryers and both irons leave it blank. That is a brand habit rather than an oversight, and it is the main criticism we would make of T3’s publishing. What wattage actually tells you explains why that omission costs you less than it sounds, and running costs shows the formula you cannot complete here.

The other shared blank

Neither product page publishes an attachment list. On a dryer that is a real gap, because the concentrator and the diffuser are the two parts that decide what the tool can actually do: a concentrator is what short hair and sleek finishes need, and a diffuser is what curls need.

The AireLuxe is sold as a “styling set,” which implies accessories without naming them. We are not going to tell you what is in the box on the strength of an implication. If a published attachment list is what you need, the Shark SpeedStyle Pro names six and the Dyson Supersonic names three — diffuser vs concentrator covers which one your hair wants, and the diffuser roundup lists who publishes one.

Which one to buy

  • Buy whichever is cheaper when you look. This is the genuine answer and it is unusual for us to give it. Eight published rows are identical and the ninth is half an ounce. There is no published basis for paying a premium for either.
  • Buy the Featherweight StyleMax only if the price is level. It is the lighter of the two on paper, so with nothing else to separate them it wins a coin toss. It is usually the dearer.
  • Buy either for fine, bleached or color-treated hair. Fifteen heat-and-speed combinations is the most published control of any dryer here, and the low end is the point — dryers for fine hair and dryers for color-treated hair.
  • Neither, if you need the weight to actually be low. Both are around a pound. The L’ange Axia publishes 0.7 lb and a temperature range with it — T3 Featherweight vs L’ange Axia.
  • Neither, if you travel. Both publish 125 V. The ghd flight+ is the only dual-voltage dryer in this registry.
  • Neither, if you want to know the power or what is in the box. No wattage and no attachment list on either page.

The individual sheets in full are at the T3 AireLuxe review and the T3 Featherweight StyleMax review, and the brand picture is at the T3 brand page.

Questions people actually ask

What is the difference between the T3 AireLuxe and the Featherweight StyleMax?

Half an ounce. T3 publishes 17.1 oz for the AireLuxe and 16.6 oz for the Featherweight StyleMax, both excluding the cord. Every other published row is the same: five heat settings, three speeds, a 9 ft cord, 125 V, a two-year warranty, and no wattage figure on either.

Which T3 dryer should I buy?

Whichever is cheaper when you look. With eight of ten published rows identical and the ninth differing by half an ounce, there is no published basis for paying a premium for either one.

How many watts is the T3 AireLuxe?

T3 does not publish a wattage for the AireLuxe or for the Featherweight StyleMax, so no running cost can be computed for either. T3 publishes a wattage on only two products in this registry: the Aire 360 at 1,200 to 1,400 W and the AireBrush Round at 1,200 W.

What wattage actually tells you

Are the T3 AireLuxe and Featherweight StyleMax dual voltage?

No. T3 publishes 125 V for both, which is single voltage. The ghd flight+ is the only dual-voltage dryer in this registry.

Which hair tools are dual voltage

Do T3 dryers come with a diffuser?

T3 publishes no attachment list for either the AireLuxe or the Featherweight StyleMax, so we cannot tell you what is in the box. The AireLuxe is sold as a styling set, which implies accessories without naming them.
