280°F is the reason to buy it

That is the lowest published starting temperature of any plate or barrel tool in this registry. ghd fixes at 365°F, CHI at 392 and 395°F, and Hot Tools publishes only a 455°F ceiling.

On fine, color-treated, bleached or recovering hair the floor is the whole decision, because the damage you do is done at the top of the range rather than the bottom. Repeated thermal cycling degrades the fiber measurably Evans and Park, Journal of Cosmetic Science, and processed hair starts with less to lose Dyer et al., Journal of Cosmetic Science.

Publishing every setting in degrees rather than as a count is the other half of it. A tool that says “five heat settings” tells you nothing about whether setting one is safe for bleached hair; a tool that says 280°F tells you exactly where you stand.

36 W is not a typo

It looks like an error beside a category where 1,875 W is normal, and it is worth being explicit about why it is not. A hair dryer spends nearly all its power heating a large volume of moving air. This is a plate styler with an airflow channel: it heats two small titanium surfaces and holds them there, which takes a tiny fraction of the energy.

At the U.S. average residential rate of 18.34 cents per kilowatt-hour and 65 hours of use a year, 36 W costs about 43 cents annually. It matters for a different reason: an unattended heated surface is a burn and fire question rather than an energy one, which is what how to store hair tools is about.

One of the few that genuinely travels

100–240 V at 50/60 Hz. Combined with 0.8 lb and an 8.2 ft cord, that makes it one of the most packable heated tools on the site — and unlike the other two L’ange tools, which are both 125 V only, this one actually crosses the Atlantic. See dual-voltage tools.

Standard or Grande?

L’ange publishes both configurations separately, which makes this an unusually easy decision to reason about rather than guess at.

The plate length is the deciding row. A 5.3 in plate covers more of a section per pass, which matters on long or dense hair where the number of passes is the thing you are trying to reduce. A 3.5 in plate is easier to control near the root, around the face and on anything shorter than the shoulder.

The weight difference — a tenth of a pound — is not enough to decide anything. Buy the Grande for length, the Standard for precision, and ignore the wattage gap entirely: at 65 hours a year, 50 W costs about 60 cents against the Standard’s 43 cents.

Where it loses

• Warranty. One year is the shortest term in this registry. Hot Tools publishes a lifetime limited warranty and ghd three years.
• Speed settings and attachments. Both unpublished, which is an odd gap on a sheet this complete elsewhere.
• Titanium is unforgiving. A harder, faster surface punishes a paused pass more than ceramic does — the rounded plate edges mitigate it, and technique matters. See titanium flat irons.

Who should buy it

Fine, colored or recovering hair that wants a genuinely low, stated starting temperature; anyone who travels; and anyone who wants a light tool with a long cord. On the floor row it is the best documented tool on this site.
